- A map scale is 1 cm to 4 km. Find the real distance represented by 7.5 cm
- A value increases from 80 to 92. Find the percentage increase
- Two similar shapes have length scale factor 3. Find the area scale factor
Worked example
Share £72 in the ratio 5:7
1. There are 5 + 7 = 12 equal parts
2. One part is £72 ÷ 12 = £6
3. The shares are 5 × £6 and 7 × £6
Answer: £30 and £42
